Serenading Strings

Merced, CA — The Merced Symphony invites the community to an intimate evening of chamber music on Thursday, March 19 at 6:00 PM with Serenading Strings, performed by the Merced Symphony String Quartet.
Drawing from the artistic leadership and musicianship at the core of the Merced Symphony Orchestra, the quartet features longtime Concertmaster Julie Kim (violin I) and principal violinist Rebecca Wishnia (violin II)—both consistent presences throughout the Symphony’s season—joined by accomplished artists Ivo Bokulić (viola) and Samsun van Loon (cello).
Guided by the artistic vision of Maestro Ming Luke, an internationally recognized conductor whose distinguished career spans symphonic, ballet, opera, and educational programs across the United States and abroad, the ensemble reflects the Symphony’s enduring commitment to artistic excellence and expressive performance.
Serenading Strings offers audiences a refined chamber music experience that captures the depth, cohesion, and interpretive insight familiar from the Symphony’s mainstage performances—presented in an intimate setting that allows listeners to connect more closely with the music and musicians.
“This performance is part of a broader vision for the Merced Symphony,” said Jennifer Summers, Executive Director. “With Downtown Merced’s recent designation as a California Cultural District, we see tremendous opportunity to expand how we activate and celebrate the arts in our community. Chamber performances like this allow us to be nimble, accessible, and forward-thinking as we build a Symphony that will not only thrive today, but continue enriching Merced for the next 100 years.”
Through the String Quartet, the Merced Symphony expands its artistic reach, bringing accessible chamber music into community-centered spaces and deepening cultural engagement throughout Merced’s vibrant downtown arts district.
